Learning Shakuhachi requires patience, perseverance and focus. A lesson would typically last an hour and would involve learning Honkyoku, Sankyoku and Folk music from scores written in the traditional Kinko style. The music has many intricacies and subtitles that often take years to learn. Toji is a master level teacher who teaches in the tradition of the Mujuan School in Kyoto Japan. This tradition is heavily influenced by Jin Nyodo and encorporates many different traditions including Kinko Ryu, Nazasaha, and pieces unique to temples that existed throughout Japan. Each piece has it's own intricacies and each tradition has its own rules and practices.
